Effective December 1, 1998, OSHA 1910.178 for Powered Industrial Trucks was amended to include sweeping changes with regard to Operator Training.

The new requirements include:

Comprehensive, equipment-specific training for competent operators, including formal instruction, practical (hands on) training, and performance evaluation. Refresher training every 3 years, or sooner if necessary. Certification.
